Alaska Travel Tips

The following travel tips are provided to help make your trip to Alaska more enjoyable.
If you have specific questions concerning flights and tours in and around Southeast Alaska, feel free to contact us.

Reservations
Reservations may be made directly with Air Excursions at (907) 697-2375, or within Alaska (800) 354-2479. Walk-up passengers are always welcome, but to ensure seat availability during the summer season, we strongly encourage you to make your reservations in advance.

Connections
When making a connecting flight with Alaska Airlines it is recommended that you allow at least one hour between arrival in Juneau and your departure on Air Excursions. Air Excursions provides numerous daily flights from Juneau, Gustavus, and other Southeast Alaska locations. Our frequent departures assure passengers of maximum flight flexibility and ample time for connecting flights.

Clothing
Our best advice is to dress in layers while visiting Alaska. During summer months the daily temperatures can vary from 40 degrees to 75 degrees. Don't forget your rain gear!

Photography
Just leaving Juneau you'll get a terrific opportunity to photograph the Mendenhall Glacier - 4 miles north of the airport. Depending on your destination you may have additional opportunities to photograph glaciers, breathtaking mountainscapes or some of the abundant wildlife. A polarizing filter will help to minimize the effects of diffuse light and sharpen the natural blues of the ice and sky. A final note, when taking photos from any airplane it's generally best to turn the flash off since the reflection off the window can detract from the photo.
