UAF Hockey Signs Two Recruits

(Fairbanks) - The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Athletics announced today that two student-athletes have signed the National Letter of Intent to become members of the Nanook hockey team for the 1997-98 school year.

Pat Hallett (Fairbanks, AK), a 6'3", 205 lb left wing, and Ryan Reinheller (Medicine Hat, AB), a 6'0", 190 lb right wing, will join the Nanook hockey team. Hallett, currently a member of the Soo Indians of the North American Junior Hockey League, is his team's leading goal scorer with 14 points in 15 games. Reinheller is a member of the Penticton Panthers in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League. He has scored 25 points in only 15 games and has three game winning goals in those games.

First year UAF assistant hockey coach Tavis MacMillan is excited about the potential of both players joining the Nanooks. "It continues to be our goal to recruit the best Alaskan players to UAF," says MacMillan. "Pat Hallett is an example of that. He is a big, strong kid with good skills who definitely is one of the top Alaskans out there. Pat is a strong all-around player that will add additional size and skill to our line-up. We're thrilled he wants to stay home and play his college hockey for the Nanooks. We're also pleased to sign Ryan Reinheller. He is another solid, all-around player. Ryan has great playmaking skills and shoots the puck very well. He is just a quality player. Both Pat and Ryan will improve our team."

The NCAA allows two opportunities to sign players to scholarships during the year (November and April). This is the second time in UAF hockey history that the Nanooks have received commitments from players during the early signing period. The Nanooks, who will lose six seniors after this season, expect to sign four or five more players by April.
