Mike Curtin To Join UAF Athletics' Staff

The Nanooks have a new athletic trainer.  Mike Curtin has joined the University of Alaska Fairbanks Athletic Department staff as the Head Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  He replaces Kelsy Kuehn who resigned in April.

Curtin returns to UAF after graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 1987.  From there, he went on to receive his second Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Human Performance from Oregon State University in 1992, and a Master's Degree in Athletic Training from the University of Arizona in 1994.  Curtin has been employed with Sports Medicine Fairbanks as the Director of Athletic Training since 1994.

Curtin is excited to join the UAF Staff.  "It feels great to be coming back to work for my alma mater," says Curtin.  "I've spent the last nine years preparing for this opportunity.  I am looking forward to working with the athletes, not just in the training room, but in establishing a year-round strength and conditioning program."

"Mike Curtin is a great addition to our school and basketball program," says Nanook Men's Basketball Coach Al Sokaitis.  "His addition will not only help in rehabilitation, but allows us to become a stronger and better team."  UAF Hockey Coach Dave Laurion echoed Sokaitis' comments.  "Mike will be a tremendous asset to the hockey program.  His strength and conditioning expertise will greatly assist us in our team's physical development."
