Two More Players Join UAF Hockey Team

Fairbanks - The Nanooks just landed two locals!  The UAF hockey team announced today that two recruited walk-on student-athletes, forwards Raymond Williams and Efren Larranaga, both of Fairbanks, Alaska, will play for the 1999-2000 Nanooks.

Williams, a 5-10, 175 lb., center/left wing, played for the North Iowa Huskies in the United States Hockey League.  In 52 games last season he scored nine goals and 27 assists.  "We are pleased to have Raymond join our team," said UAF Assistant Coach Tavis MacMillan.  "He is a solid winger that will add speed to our line up."  Williams is the younger brother of former Nanook Pat Williams.

Larranaga is a 5-9, 180 lb., forward who also played for North Iowa in the USHL.   He scored four goals and nine assists in 50 games.  "Efren will add grit and character to our team," said MacMillan.  "It continues to be our goal to bring in the best local talent available.  Both players add characteristics that we are looking for up front: speed and toughness."

The addition of Williams and Larranaga brings the number of hockey recruits to five.   The Nanooks previously announced the signing of forwards Casey Bartzen (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Colen Pappas (Balzac, Alberta) and goaltender Lance Mayes (Brentwood Bay, British Columbia).
