Fairbanks - The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Athletics announced today that the Nanook hockey team has inked two recruits in the early signing period. Ryan Lang and Cory Rask will join the Nanooks for the 2000-2001 season. Both players are skating for the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and are coached by former Nanook great Wade Klippenstein.
Lang, a 5-10, 175 lb., center from Regina, Saskatchewan, has scored 43 points (18-25-43) in 28 games and is the leading scorer in the SJHL. Lang was heavily recruited and picked UAF over four other schools.
"Ryan is a great skater with good skills," said UAF Assistant Coach Tavis MacMillan. "He is a player who will step in and contribute right away. Ryan will add an offensive presence to our line-up immediately."
Parkside, Saskatchewan, native Cory Rask is a 5-11, 190 lb., winger. He is the tenth leading scorer in the SJHL with 15 goals and 19 assists this season. Rask's older brother, Devin, also played for Yorkton and is now playing with Providence College.
"Cory is a relentless worker with good skills," said MacMillan. "He never gets outworked and will fit in well with what we are trying to do."
"We are very excited to get two quality players in Ryan and Cory," said UAF Head Coach Guy Gadowsky. "They will both add strength and character to our team."
After a week hiatus, the Nanooks host Northern Michigan University this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26-27, for a pair of games at the Carlson Center. Game times are set at 7:00 p.m. each night.
