Recognition Program


The State of Alaska has developed twin programs to recognize its Gold Rush era pioneers and properties. Through this program, the state provides attractive certificates to persons furnishing information on their Gold Rush era relatives (or themselves) or properties. Applicants provide information important to understanding Alaska and its people.

Alaska's Gold Rush Pioneers Program:
Anyone may apply who lived in Alaska or who had a relarive in Alaska before 1921 who was associated with the gold rushes. Direct descendants, those related by marriage or adoptions, and distant relatives of the Gold Rush era person can apply as long as the family connection is documented in the application.

Alaska's Gold Rush Properties Program:
Anyone may apply who owns, rents, uses, or otherwise is associated with real estate that was established or in use in Alaska before 1921 and associated with the gold rushes. Qualifying properties include pre-1921 houses, structures or businesses, and mining claims.
