A membership organization first established February, 20, 1907, the goal of the Pioneers of Alaska was to "unite the old-timers of Alaska and by permanent organization, preserve the names of all early settlers on its rolls; to collect and preserve the incidents of Alaska's literature and history, and to promote the best interest of the Territory."
Comprised of men's groups called "Igloos" and women's groups called "Auxiliaries", member groups still exist in most Alaskan communities. At its inception, membership required residency in Alaska prior to January 1, 1901. Current membership eligibility requires Alaskan residency for thirty years prior to application for membership. The application includes name, permanent address, height, weight, complexion, color of eyes, color of hair, health, occupation, a short biographical sketch, and an endorsement by two individuals who know the applicant. Additional information such as nespaper clippings about golden wedding anniversaries, weddings, accomplishments of children, and obituaries are often included.

Include your "Sourdough's" name, year of arrival in Alaska, and Igloo or Auxiliary number. Your request will be then be forwarded to the proper chapter to handle.
