This index includes over 2,500 surnames of individuals (Alaskans and people in neighboring Canadian communities) whose names appeared in the Fairbanks newspapers. The indexers listed every name the first time it appeared in the newspaper, except for the names appearing in the passenger and hotel guest lists. The first printing was supported by a grant from the State of Alaska Historical Commission, 1986.

Approximately 8,300 entries, this excellent index of information was extracted from the Fairbanks News (Sept. 1903-May 1905), the Fairbanks Evening News (May 1905-June 1907), the Fairbanks Daily News (June 1907-March18, 1909), and the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (May 22, 1909-1930). Entries indicate where the reference can be found and denotes birth, death, marriage or divorce.

Note: Volume 2 covering the years 1931-1956 is currently being compiled by members and friends of the Fairbanks Genealogical Society.

Pioneers of Alaska Index
An index to over 8,000 original membership records of thePioneers ofAlaska housed at the Alaska and Polar Regions Department of the Elmer E.Rasmuson Library on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. New records are added regularly. Each record include the individual's full name, igloo or auxiliary number, birth place and year, year of arrival in Alaska, and arrival place.

Access to the full membership record is restricted. To obtain information from the record, permission must be received from the Pioneers of Alaska.

1901-1912 Polk Directories
A directory of names by location. Information includes addresses and occupation. Many businesses are also included.We regret that we are no longer able to provide access to this database.
