Based on remedial investigations completed on the Peninsula, 63 chemicals of concern were selected for analysis. These belonged to four groups: polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and metals.
Based on interviews with Community members, nine sampling locations were selected around the Peninsula. Locations on the east side of Annette Island were selected as reference areas. These reference areas are on the opposite side of the Island, away from the contamination and human activity of the Metlakatla Peninsula. The upland and marine environment near Crab Bay and Cascade Inlet are relatively pristine areas on Annette Island.
