~ Tom ~

Oh sweetest man..
flying into your sunset
on a day that the sun
didn't shine at all

Funny I could never
remember your last name
but always your smile
and the twinkle of your eyes

And the goodness of you
watching you dream
while you flew into
the valleys of this land.

The treasure of you
sharing yourself with a world
that always needed more
of that more often.

Up there somewhere
you are smiling perhaps
looking down here at us
who are left behind.

I shall always keep a little
of you inside
and once in a while I'll say
"What the Hell are you doin' here?"

Just like I used to say to you
everytime we met.
I'll really miss you Tom.
I hope you're having a good time.

All my love.

Tom Kohler. One of Southeast Alaska's greatest pilots was lost this week. The last time I saw him was at my sister's wedding reception on June 7th when he slipped her a champagne cork wrapped in a fifty. He was a very special person. We used to have coffee every morning when we worked in the same building. He was an electrician and all round handyman in between flying the MediVac jet to Seattle and cargo flights for Loken Aviation. Always flying. Always smiling. A wry sense of humor. A great laugh. He sparkled and you just wanted to be his friend. He had a lot of friends. He and Roxie had just married this month. I will miss him a lot.
