About The Artist
Sitka, Alaska painter Stephen Lawrie is a native New Zealander who began painting at a young age. He attended the Elam School of Fine Arts in Aukland, New Zealand, after his portfolio was rated second in the nation. Mr. Lawrie first visited Alaska in 1973 and moved to the state permanently three years later. He has been working as a fisherman out of Sitka since 1977, but now focuses on his art. He paints using acrylic combined with graphite pencil and has a special talent for painting portraits. He uses his art as an avenue for personal expression and growth. Mr. Lawrie's work is on display at the Sitka Rose Gallery and at the Alaska State Museum in Juneau. His work will be shown at "The Big Picture" in Juneau during Gallery Walk in December.
