Mythos Expeditions Kodiak

--Sample Itineraries--

thewildcoast.com

There is no one page that will tell the whole Mythos (mith' ohs) story, because each of our charters specifically designed to meet the needs of our clients. One size does not fit all. You tell us what your objectives are and we design the charter package for you. That is why there are a number of possibilities on this website. You don't want to kayak, fine, we have a Zodiac for you. You don't want to fish, fine, we won't fish. But we do know our country and we have the knowledge to get your objectives accomplished...and that doesn't cost more...it's just what we do. Look through our site and see the kind or repertoire we are talking about. If you don't see what you need, give us a call.

Each day includes such activities as: sea mammal viewing, bear viewing, sportsfishing, hiking, birding, beachcombing, guided or unguided kayaking excursions.  Day three:

Day five:

Fly Fishing Afognak Coho

Four or five day coho itinerary---late August and September
Afognak coho trips usually begin and end in the port of Kodiak, where ice and fuel are available. Basically, the Afognak coho itinerary includes a circumnavigation of Afognak Island, north of Kodiak, depending upon the prevailing wind direction.

We endeavor to visit the coho producing systems depending on the timing of the run.

Coho may be found in salt water, in the estuaries, or in the streams.

Fishermen should be prepared to fish all three environments. We provide a 14' Zodiac for salt water and estuary fishing, while your waders or float tubes work well in the estuaries or the streams.
Catch and release works best with the legal possession limits, since frequently it is easy to limit out quickly. Keeping injured or exhausted fish provides the ice chest with plenty of fish to take home. Dolly Varden are often taken incidentally to coho.
There will be opportunity to fish for halibut or lingcod too. We have spinning and deep sea tackle on the Mythos. All meals and snacks are provided. This is a prized trip for our repeat customers.

Birding the Misty Isles...Sitkinak and Tugidak

South of Kodiak Island lie the Trinity Islands, comprised of Aiaktalik, Sitkinak, and Tugidak Islands. A wild region for wind and tide, it is nevertheless a most beautiful place with an abundance of terrestrial, avian, and marine life.

These islands lie at the "end of the earth," where weather and tidal conditions stir abruptly.

Here are populations of loons, grebes, swans, geese, ducks, shearwaters, petrels, shorebirds, terns, jaegers, and many more.

Whether it is abandoned gold mines, or ancient petroglyphs, the country is beautifully wild. For the serious wilderness adventurer only.

Travel with the Mythos, or meet us at the airstrip at Akhiok village. One of our most adventurous trips.

None of our trips are regularly scheduled, because we do not cater to the crowd. Call for arrangements and we will build a customized itinerary to suit your interests or requirements.

Like these petroglyphs, let the myth and mystery of the Kodiak experience take you away.
