Yakutat Glacier, near Yakutat, Alaska.  This is the largest freshwater glacier in the world.   The face of the glacier that you can see in this picture is over 100 feet high, as it meets the lake.

As the picture above clearly shows, Yakutat is one of the world's most beautiful places to visit.  Spectacular vistas abound, and there is wildlife to match!

There are thirty miles of road on the Yakutat road system, plus miles of old logging roads.  These cross the Situk and numerous small streams.

Captain Kirk has the boats to take you where you wish either on the sea or up the rivers.  This is especially important in an area where the waterways are the most exciting pathways to see the country.

Alaska wildlife are truly "larger than life." Species native to both the coastal and interior regions of Alaska can be viewed in the same day. On land, the world's largest member of the deer family, the moose, is frequrently sighted.  On the water, the Humpback whale can been seen along with seals, sea lions, eagles, and shorebirds. Both species of bear inhabit Yakutat--the black bear and the might coastal brown bear, the largest land carnivore on earth.   If lucky, you may seen the rare and beautiful glacier bear

Local car rentals and air charters are also available in Yakutat.  The road system is 30 miles long, and affords views of mountains, lakes, ocean, rivers, and old-growth forest..  Air charters to the more remote scenic spots are very popular.
