Please help us prepare………….

Although we do not have a Bishop assigned to Juneau yet, when the phone rings it could happen very quickly. In order to be prepared for that time the Diocese would like to have preparations in place for his installation. We do know that circumstances can change between now and then but these lists will give us a step up in the process. We need to prepare a list of people willing to provide a bedroom or bedrooms to individuals and/or couples. We will also need people willing to provide transportation.  If you are willing to add your name to either list, please call Robbie @ 586-2227 ext 25.

Commissioning of Catechists

St. Paul’s will join Catholic parishes across the country in celebrating Catechetical Sunday during the weekend of September 20-21, 2008, with a commissioning of catechists. The annual event spotlights the importance of the formal teaching ministry in the Catholic Church. The theme of this year’s event is “The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church.”

St. Paul’s will observe Catechetical Sunday with a rite of commissioning for its catechists, aides, Religious Education Board members, Catholic Youth Ministry core team and Board members and our RCIA/RCIC catechists. As part of these celebrations, parents and guardians will be blessed for the important role they play in handing on the faith to the next generation.

The work of these catechists—all of whom volunteer their time—is vital to the life of the Church. This celebration gives us a chance to recognize the importance of those who share faith with so many in our parish.

Currently we have close to 50 volunteers helping with the Religious Education Program (preschool – 8th Grade) and we are in need of seven more.  Please consider sharing your faith with the children of St. Paul’s!  Contact Marilyn at 789-7303 for more information.

Catechist openings:

Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 5th Grade aide

Sunday 10:30 a.m. – Childcare during Mass

Monday 4:00 p.m. –  4th Grade aide

Wednesday 7:00 p.m. – 8th Grade catechist

RELIGIOUS ED – Preschool – 8th

Parents - we also offer 1st - 5th Grade classes on Mondays from 4:00 - 5:15 p.m. Due to overcrowding in some of our Sunday classes we are encouraging families to consider sending their child to Monday classes for their Religious Education.

Monday classes begin with a healthy after-school snack  and transportation is available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Immediately following Monday classes is the Children's Choir practice.  If your child would like to join the new Children's Choir this is an ideal way to have your child attend class and choir practice at one convenient time and location.  More information will be available at the Registration Fair coming September 6/7 and 13/14 following all Masses.

Volunteer Opportunities

We need volunteers to fill the following openings:

Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.  5th Grade Aide

A  RECYCLING NOTE: Our plastic recycling is going really, really well and we thank all of you for your participation in this endeavor. However, in your enthusiasm you are including items that are creating more work for our volunteers. At this time we only recycle # 1 & # 2 plastics (the number is located on the bottom of the container) and since we cannot recycle them…. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIDS!  Also,  please don’t include any aluminum cans along with your plastic because we DO NOT recycle aluminum. Your help will create a more efficient pick up of materials and much happier volunteers.  Thank you.

Stewardship

Who is a Christian disciple?  One who responds to Christ's call, follows Jesus, and shapes his or her life in imitation of Christ's.  Who is a Christian steward?  One who receives God's gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord.

"Genesis tells us that God placed the first human beings in a garden to practice stewardship there - 'to cultivate and care for it' (Gn. 2:15). The world remains a kind of garden (or workshop, as some would prefer to say) entrusted to the care of men and women for God's glory and the service of humankind.  In its simplest yet deepest sense, this is Christian stewardship ..."
