This is a step-by-step guide to setting up your Windows 95 based computer to access the Net with PTI NET. You may be required to use your Microsoft Windows 95 installation CD-ROM or diskettes. If you do not have your installation disc(s), you may not be able to install all the necessary drivers and communication protocols for accessing the Net. Please have your Microsoft Windows 95 installation CD-ROM or diskettes ready before beginning the Internet Setup Wizard.

 

  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Choose Programs...
  3. Choose Accessories...
  4. Choose Internet Tools...
  5. Choose Get on the Internet (or Internet Setup Wizard)...

 

This is the opening window for the version of Windows 95 that has "Get on the Internet" in the Internet Tools menu.

Click Next

 

This is the window that will appear first for those versions of Windows 95 that have "Internet Setup Wizard" in the Internet Tools menu.

Click Next

 

If you have "Get on the Internet" in the Internet Tools menu, you will see this window.
  1. Click on Manual
  2. Click Next
If you have "Internet Setup Wizard" in the Internet Tools menu, you will see a window that asks if you wish to connect to the Net with the Microsoft Network (MSN) or if you already have a different service provider. Choose the option that states you already have a different service provider, then click Next

 

 

  1. Click Connect using my phone line
  2. Click Next

 

  1. For Name of Service Provider: type PTI NET
  2. Click Next

 

  1. For the Area code: type 907
  2. For the Telephone number: type the number that PTI NET gave to you for local access
  3. Click Next

 

 

  1. For User name: type the user_name (also called login ID) that you chose when you signed up
  2. For Password: type the password that you chose when you signed up
  3. Click Next
NOTE: It is 100% guaranteed that if you put @ptialaska.net after your user_name you will NOT be able to gain access.

 

 

  1. Click My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one.
  2. Click Next

 

  1. For DNS Server: type 198.70.245.245
  2. For Alternate DNS Server: type 198.70.245.248
  3. Click Next

 

  1. Click Use Internet Mail
  2. For Your Email address: type user_name@ptialaska.net
  3. For Internet mail server: type mail.ptialaska.net
  4. Click Next

 

  1. For Profile: choose Internet Mail Settings
  2. Click Use this profile when starting MS Exchange/Windows Messaging
  3. Click Next
NOTE: If Internet Mail Settings is not available, use MS Exchange Settings or Windows Messaging Settings depending on which version of Windows 95 you have.

 

You have now finished the Internet Setup Wizard. As instructed, click on the Internet icon on your desktop to explore the Net.

Click Finish
