In an unofficial test, a local teacher
compared twisted rope and several other
brands of braided rope to our braided product and said that our
product lasted longer. While we have touched on only
a few items, you can see that braided line is all around us in today's
world. Nylon braided rope works well for tie up lines on pleasure
crafts, rope swings for the kids, tying down a load on the back
of a truck and just about any job you can think of where rope is
in demand.
How did I learn
so much about braided line?
I spent 17 years working maintenance for Western Transportation,
in first line management. This company operates tugboats and barges
on the Willamette and Columbia Rivers in Oregon and Washington,
transporting paper products. That experiences
brought me in contact with rope of many kinds, most of
which was of the three lay variety.
While I worked for Western Transportation,
I became a Master Shipwright and
held this position until I quit Western
to go fishing in Alaska, a life long dream, where I made Sitka my
home.
During the next 9 years I
longline-fished in Southeast Alaska for halibut, black cod and rock
fish. The rigorous conditions of Alaska fishing place
high demands on longline gear beyond normal
duty requirements. Our lives
and our livelihood, as fishermen depended on the quality of the
equipment that we work with, line included.
The quality of the
line I worked with was not what I felt it should be. This, as well
as poor sales and service, prompted me to quit fishing, and open
a fishing supply retail store which specializes in braided line.
Thus WELLS
FISHING, INC. was launched. I
have spliced bridles,
tow straps, tow lines, and a myriad of other items too numerous
to mention here.
I have provided quality line to many
of the top fishers in Southeast Alaska since 1992. Our customers
like the product that comes from our braiding machines, because
we make it the way they want it.
If this article has led you to believe
all we produce is ground line and gangion for fishing, think again.
The braided products we produce can be used for thousands of applications
from parachute cord to shoe laces. Just look around and you'll see
where it is in use throughout the average home.
If you have any questions, or would
like a quote for design on a special rope, twine, or gangion, just
e-mail or call 907-747-3686.
If it's a braided product, we can make anything that comes
in a fiber strand form from Kevlar to Mona Filament to Nylon to
Cotton.
