Research and publications have included studies of the Athabaskans of interior Alaska, Tlingit and Haida of Southeastern Alaska, Eskimos and Japanese culture and history.
Awards In 1994 the Alaska Anthropological Association recognized Professor Olson for his "Lifetime Contributions to Alaskan Anthropology." The following year the University of Alaska presented him with the Edith Bullock Award for "Excellence in Service to the University." In 2002, he was the recipient of the Alaska Historical Society's Evangeline Atwood Award for "Sustained Outstanding Contributions to Historical Activities in Alaska." |
