After an explanation of the background and purpose of the expedition, there is a day-by-day account of the two surveys in Alaska. The chronology was compiled from his journal and that of the naturalist, Archibald Menzies. It briefly describes their activities and explains the source of many of the place names that Vancouver placed on the charts. Mention is made of Vancouver's visit to Hawaii and the ceding of the islands to Great Britain on February 25, 1794.
