Silver Gulch Brewing and Bottling Co. has been in operation since February 1998 in the small mining community of Fox, Alaska, located about 10 miles north of Fairbanks on the Steese Highway. Silver Gulch Brewing grew from brewmaster Glenn Brady's home-brewing efforts in 5-gallon batches to its current capacity of 24-barrel (750 gallon) batches.  Here are some facts about the brewery:

  • SILVER GULCH Brewing and Bottling is owned and operated by life-long Alaskans.
  • Brewery opened in February 1998 with the new restaurant & bar opened in May 2007.
  • 24 BBL (750 GAL.) brewhouse, with 75 BBL (2325 GAL.) fermenters. Maximum annual capacity of 4000 BBL (124,000 GAL.) with present fermenters.
  • Located in the Historic Mining District of Fox, Alaska, 10 miles north of Fairbanks on the Steese Highway.  We are America’s most northern brewery/brewpub.
  • Our bottling facilities in Fox, Alaska are capable of packaging up to 200 bottles per minute at full speed. Typical bottling runs occur at 120-180 bottles per minute.
  • All of our beers are sterile-filtered for stability and shelf life. Our filtration system is considered 'state of the art' for a facility of much larger capacity.
  • All of our beers are brewed using the legendary Fox spring water, the finest malted barley, hops and yeast.

The recipes used in the Silver Gulch Brewing line of beers come directly from the genius of Glenn and our Operations Manager-Dan (Dunk) Unkerskov.  Dunk hails from Canada, and has over 22 years experience in the brewing industry.  We design our beers to please the five senses, not necessarily to meet beer-style guidelines.  We think you’ll agree with the results!

The brewery facilities were originally constructed throughout the 1997 season, and incorporate the efforts (blood, sweat and tears!) of the founders and local craftsmen.  The results speak for themselves. Co-located with the newly renovated pub & dining facilities, the 12,000 square foot brewery is an awe-inspiring work of process technology.

The brewing vessels were purchased used from the Conner's Brewery in St. Catherines, Canada and have a total capacity of 375 barrels. From start to finish, the brewing process takes 1 long day with up to an additional 6+ weeks for fermentation and aging. After the beer has been conditioned, it is cold-filtered through a state-of-the-art German system and then bottled on the 200 bottle-per-minute bottling system. This system cleans, fills, caps, labels and repacks the bottles back in their cases.
